FaceSensor® Family of Products Privacy Policy
FaceSensor® Brand apps send nothing about you, or the people around you, off your own devices. The camera, and in some apps the microphone and motion sensors, are used only on your iPhone, in real time, to produce haptic or spoken feedback.
No photos, video, or audio are ever recorded or transmitted. The apps have no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party services. The optional Apple Watch features exchange information only between your iPhone and your own paired watch. Because nothing is transmitted off your own devices, nothing can be shared, sold, or disclosed, including data about children.
Some apps keep information on your iPhone so they can work. Anything kept on the device is yours: it never leaves the phone, and can be deleted at any time.
FaceSensor® and FaceSensor® Smile keep nothing. What the camera senses is converted into feedback in the moment and discarded.
FaceSensor® Focus
FaceSensor® Focus recognizes only people who have been enrolled with their signed consent, entirely on this device.
What is collected: For each enrolled person, the app stores face templates: sets of numbers (a 128-number SFace face-recognition embedding for each enrollment sample, up to five per enrollment session, and more if the person is enrolled again) that describe their face and are a biometric identifier. Templates are computed from the live camera image, which is held only in memory while the numbers are computed and is never saved; photographs and video are never stored. Stored with the templates are the person's name, whether they are the current Focus person, their consent record (see Consent), and the date they were last enrolled or recognized, which is used only for automatic deletion. While recognition is on, a template is also computed in memory for every face the camera sees so it can be compared with enrolled people; for anyone not enrolled it is replaced with the next camera frame, cleared when the camera stops, and never saved. Nothing about non-enrolled people is kept.
Use: Face data is used only on this iPhone to recognize enrolled people, so the app can tell you, through haptics, speech, the screen, or your paired Apple Watch, when they are in view and their expression: the one person you choose in Focus, or, in Mom & Dad Mode, any enrolled person who smiles. It is also used during enrollment to check that each new sample matches the person being enrolled, and to record when each person was last recognized so their data can be deleted automatically. Face data is never used for advertising, analytics, profiling, model training, or any other purpose.
Consent: A person's face is enrolled only after they, or for anyone under 18 their parent or legal guardian, complete the in-app consent notice and sign it by typing or dictating their full name. That signature name, the date, and the version of the notice they agreed to are stored with the enrollment and deleted with it. To withdraw consent, the person asks the iPhone's owner to remove them, which deletes their data immediately.
Storage and safeguarding: Face data is stored only on this iPhone, in a single file inside the app's own storage that is protected by the device's encryption (iOS Data Protection, class Complete Until First User Authentication) and excluded from iCloud and local backups; it is not stored in iCloud or the Keychain, never leaves the device, and is not restored from a backup. Deleting the app deletes it. The app contains no networking, analytics, advertising, or third-party SDKs; face matching uses the open-source SFace model, run entirely on this device. Face data and the names of enrolled people are never written to logs or included in diagnostic or crash reports. Signals sent to your paired Apple Watch (the positions and expressions of faces in view, and the name and list number of a recognized enrolled person) never include face data or images, and the watch does not store them.
Microphone: Used only while you choose to dictate a name or a consent signature. Speech is turned into text on this device; no audio is stored or sent anywhere. The first time you dictate, iOS may download Apple's on-device speech model; that download carries nothing about you. Names dictated on Apple Watch use watchOS dictation, and only the resulting text is sent to your iPhone.
Retention and destruction: Face data is destroyed, permanently and without recovery: (1) immediately, when the person is removed from the people list; (2) immediately, when Delete All Face Data is used in Settings; (3) automatically, the next time the app is opened after it has not recognized or enrolled the person for one year; and (4) when the app is deleted from the iPhone. The app cannot delete data while it is not being used, so if you stop using it, delete the app to remove all face data at once.
No sale or disclosure: Face data is never sold, leased, traded, disclosed, or otherwise monetized, and there is no mechanism in the app capable of doing so. Face data is not shared with any third party, including Apple, and Deutsch Technology Corp. never receives or has access to it.
Illinois and location: Face enrollment, face recognition, and Focus are disabled while the device is in or near Illinois, whose Biometric Information Privacy Act requires a consent process this app does not provide there. While the app is open, it checks the iPhone's location (approximate unless you allow Precise Location) on the device only to find out whether it may be in Illinois; the location is not stored and never leaves the iPhone. Places within about a kilometer of the border, and farther when the location is approximate, are treated as Illinois, including some just across it in neighboring states. Until it can confirm the device is outside Illinois (including when Location access is off), no face templates are computed and no one is recognized. Face data already on the device stays stored, unused, and can still be deleted at any time. Proximity and expression cues for the nearest person work everywhere.
Children: A parent or legal guardian must give consent before enrolling anyone under 18.
Your responsibilities: You must have each person's consent before enrolling them, and you are responsible for complying with the biometric-privacy laws that apply where you use the app, including informing people whose faces the camera may analyze.
FaceSensor® Reflex
FaceSensor® Reflex watches your training partner through the rear camera and calls each move by sound.
Everything it senses is used in the moment, on this iPhone, and then discarded.
Camera: Frames from the rear camera (and depth readings, on iPhones that provide them) are analyzed on this device to follow your partner's body and moves. No frame is ever saved, and no image or video leaves the phone.
In Observer mode the app briefly notes what each of the two people looks like so it can keep telling them apart if they cross; that note lives only in memory for the session and is never written down.
Microphone: Used only while voice commands are switched on, so the app can hear a short list of command words such as Start, Stop, Status, and Repeat. Speech is recognized on this device with Apple's on-device speech model; no audio is recorded, stored, or sent anywhere. The first time voice commands are enabled, iOS may download Apple's on-device speech model; that download is handled by iOS and carries nothing about you.
Motion: The iPhone's motion sensors are read only to tell how the phone is being held and to time your reaction when you move. Motion readings are used in the moment and not kept.
What is kept: Only your settings (mode, sounds, sensitivity, session and rest lengths, voice choice) and the dates you last trained in each mode, so the app can shorten its instructions once a mode is familiar. Session results are spoken and shown, then discarded when the next session begins. Everything kept lives on this iPhone, can be reset from the app's Settings, and never leaves the phone.
Apple Watch: The optional Reflex watch app exchanges only the names of calls, session state, mode choices, Start and Stop commands, and reaction times with your own paired watch. No frames, poses, or audio ever cross the link.
Siri and Shortcuts: "Start Training" and "Stop Training" run on your iPhone and simply open the app. The app sends nothing to Apple or anyone else.
No collection, no third parties: FaceSensor® Reflex contains no networking of its own, no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party services. It collects no personal data, from adults or children, and has nothing it could share, sell, or disclose.
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this address before the change takes effect.
